See you soon, bye bye...

Zitat von Campina:I think this would be a problem for me, too.
Zitat von silbermarie:
I would rather go to Mexico than to China, I guess. Simply because it's not too far from the US which is still closer to our culture than any Asian Country. In China I would feel like a stranger surrounded by only strangers ...
Plus, they have very nice beaches in Mexico(and yummy food to die for)
If I had to emigrate, I guess I would choose the UK or any Scandinavian country.
Me, too. The language is very very difficult and hard to learn I think.
I'm absolutely not interested in the Chinese culture.
And the food .There are some dishes that sounds disgusting.
I've never been on vacation abroad exept Austria.
I love to go to the USA to make a circular tour![]()
You can learn the language, I think it would be better if you speak it every day
but the food would not be better if you don't like it

Zitat von Engelchen1711:havent read anything from her, might try it. Sadly my time to read is pretty limited
oh yes time flies *.*
"Lauf Jane lauf" is good![]()
@Britta.... oh yes Dan Brown and Jillian Hofmann are very good too![]()
Do you read Tess Gerritsen?![]()
and I need to sleep too
Still holding off on Samarita.... Reviews are mixed and I know, if it is good, I can't put it aside

Oh the food would be my nightmare
I am a really picky eater. Took me a long time to even try poutine here

I felt free to make a few corrections, even though I'm not a native speaker. I hope you don't mind
The food would be a problem for me, too. I'm more of an experimental than a picky eater, but there are some dishes I can't even think about without the urge to vomit.
For example, they eat fish which is called (roughly translated) "sea intestine" and it looks like a big worm. The father of my sons visited China for several times and he used to tell me stories that simply scared me
I would love to visit the USA, too. I hope I'll get there someday.

Zitat von Tanzbär:That's very interesting! I think China sounds better than Mexico, I hope, your husband will get the job. Please tell us about his job interview. It would be great to follow your experiences with this (to me) very foreign country.
Zitat von Milchmaus:
Zitat von Tanzbär:
Next wednesday my husband will have a job interview with a chinese. I'm pretty nervous...
Oh, does that mean you might move to China in case he gets the job? That sounds adventurous to me. I only vaguely can imagine living in any asian city. I don't know...maybe it is because I have never been interested in this culture.![]()
Yes, if he gets the job we would move to China. I think it would be around January next year.
I'm not really interested in that culture too, but I think it would be a great experience espacially for the kids. They would go to an international school, learn english and chinese and meet a lot of interessent young people.
Besides, there is nothing to keep me / us in Germany.
The other option would be Mexico but I'm a littlte bit scared because of the high criminality there. Though it would be easier to learn the language (I know only two words in Chinese: "bu" and "ni hao"), the weather is better and there is no high air pollution.

Of course I tell you if he gets the job. But I think it will last a few weeks until the final decision.

does it really make a difference? I think in both countries you will live in guarded communities without contact to the locals![]()
my brothers best friend lives now in singapur and before somewhere in south america and he never had much contact to locals. most friends and co-workers where "other strangers" like him - from many countries but still no native.
I think it depends on the expats if they meet locals or not. Sure, if you stay all the time in your compound you will not meet a chinese / mexican.
But in the school or the companys are always locals so I hope that we can meet them in person and learn something about their culture, life ect.

I love the chinese food though I wouldn't eat dogs, insects and so on (I think). The europeans have a lot of cliches about the chinese food. From other expats I know that dog for example is not a typical food which you can easy find in the supermarket or in every restaurant. There they eat a lot of hotpot (it's a kind of chinese fondue), noodles, ducks ect.
But I think it may depend on the region in China, we would go in the northeast.

Zitat von Pitschi:I've read many fantasy books earlier, but in some way I can't read one more of this genre, I can't tell why.
At the moment i read the third and last titel of "das wolkenvolk" written by Kai Meyer.
It's about a boy who lives on a cloud. The cloud is hard as a rock because of 'aether' but it doesn't flow anymore and he is emitted to find the dragons. The dragons breath is aether.
It's difficult to describe... kai Meyer is one of my favorite author![]()
I've read books from Markus Heitz e.g. Audio books are okay for fantasy, I hear the Obsidian Series at the moment.

I know what you mean. After one or two series i'm out as well. Then i read my mangas, something from fitzek again or just watch a film.
Rarely i play something. Last time my controller got broken, we have removed all electric stuff and now it is an "activity center" for our daughter
I don't like audio books and i really hate these electronic books. I must have a real book in my hands. Read it with my own thoughts voice
What is that series about?

Zitat von Pitschi:The Obsidian Series (the author ist Jennifer L. Armentrout) is written for teenagers, especially for girls. It's about Katy, a young book bloggerin, who has to move with her mother from Florida to a small town in Virginia. Her neighbors are Daemon Black and his sister. Katy and Daemon will get lovers later in the first book, at the beginnig they hate each other. Katy doesn't know that Daemon, his sister and other people are aliens. Their home planet has been destroyed and there are other hostile aliens, too. Daemon is able to move as fast as the light and he has healing powers. He has to use these powers to save Katy's live - with serious consequences to her.

What is that series about?
It's easy stuff and from book to book more gripping to me. Book 5 released a few days ago. Sometimes I roll my eyes because of the teenager's behavior, but that's the target group and so ...
I read ebooks (is this word in English used as well?), I like it. For a long time I thought just like you, I appreciate the advantage of it in the meantime. I have no place for more books apart from special books.
Mostly I hear audio books for one reason, I can hear them by doing my housework, my day has only 24 hours.

Jennifer Armintrout? I know her. I read "Verwandlung" to "asche zu Asche" from her.
No place is nothing i can say, i have my own room full of books. You go in and nearly 10 shelves around the wall. With our movement next year the room should get bigger and more shelves
Our daughter only sleep on my stomach, so i can't do anything else than reading
and in the evening we take her to bed and read for an hour before sleeping as well. Sometimes there are some other kinds of stuff to do with each other of course
We only have three rooms and one cat, so we tidy up once a week, that's enough
