Zitat von Tanzbär:That's very interesting! I think China sounds better than Mexico, I hope, your husband will get the job. Please tell us about his job interview. It would be great to follow your experiences with this (to me) very foreign country.
Zitat von Milchmaus:
Zitat von Tanzbär:
Next wednesday my husband will have a job interview with a chinese. I'm pretty nervous...
Oh, does that mean you might move to China in case he gets the job? That sounds adventurous to me. I only vaguely can imagine living in any asian city. I don't know...maybe it is because I have never been interested in this culture.![]()
Yes, if he gets the job we would move to China. I think it would be around January next year.
I'm not really interested in that culture too, but I think it would be a great experience espacially for the kids. They would go to an international school, learn english and chinese and meet a lot of interessent young people.
Besides, there is nothing to keep me / us in Germany.
The other option would be Mexico but I'm a littlte bit scared because of the high criminality there. Though it would be easier to learn the language (I know only two words in Chinese: "bu" and "ni hao"), the weather is better and there is no high air pollution.

At the moment i read the third and last titel of "das wolkenvolk" written by Kai Meyer.
It's about a boy who lives on a cloud. The cloud is hard as a rock because of 'aether' but it doesn't flow anymore and he is emitted to find the dragons. The dragons breath is aether.
It's difficult to describe... kai Meyer is one of my favorite author

does it really make a difference? I think in both countries you will live in guarded communities without contact to the locals
my brothers best friend lives now in singapur and before somewhere in south america and he never had much contact to locals. most friends and co-workers where "other strangers" like him - from many countries but still no native.

Zitat von Mamtam:
To the readers amongst us, what are you reading now? What is the topic? Which genre is it?
I read The Last Kindgom Series from Bernard Cornwall at the moment, formerly known as "The Warrior Chronicles/Saxon Stories". It is historical stuff about a fiktiv English boy, Uthred, who was captured by vikings in old England. He learned from the Danes the vikings way. He appreciates this way furthermore, when he decides to be King Alfreds man, the Saxons King. Uthred was born as a noble man and his goal is to retake his fathers property, Bebbanburg, his inheritance, which was stolen from his uncle, who still wants to kill him.
First I've watched the BBC Series "The Last Kingdom", than I decided to read the books in English of course.
Now it's your turn.![]()
(Btw, to write this was difficult to me, it's not my comfort zone, I just say "the tenses". To talk about the weather is easier.
)
I just finished "she's not there" from Joy Fielding. After the last book I read from her, I was curious how this will be. The other one wasn't as good.

...interesting young people.
....high crime rate.
...and the air pollution isn't as high as in... Or ...isn't that high
In my opinion it doesn't matter where you go. There is crime everywhere
China sounds more interesting even it has less appeal too me. The culture there seems quite interesting. I hope you find your way.
We left Germany cause nothing was holding us there too. I only miss my in laws, but for my own family, I am happy that I am faaaaaaar away

I would rather go to Mexico than to China, I guess. Simply because it's not too far from the US which is still closer to our culture than any Asian Country. In China I would feel like a stranger surrounded by only strangers ...
Plus, they have very nice beaches in Mexico
(and yummy food to die for)
If I had to emigrate, I guess I would choose the UK or any Scandinavian country.

Zitat von Britta:I know these disappointing moments, one book is great, another is boring and both are from the same author. I've never read ab book from Joy Fielding, is it worth to try it? And if which title?

"She's not there" is definitely worth reading. As well as "sag mami goodbye" and "lauf Jane lauf" she has other good books but would have to double check on the titles.
I also love Jilliane Hoffmann and Dan Brown.

Me, too. The language is very very difficult and hard to learn I think.
I'm absolutely not interested in the Chinese culture.
And the food.
There are some dishes that sounds disgusting. I've never been on vacation abroad exept Austria.
I love to go to the USA to make a circular tour
