What I live about anyone who is a native speaker, they are not judging you when you try to speak English
they encourage you. In my nine years I only had it once that someone laughed about me (it's only four weeks ago) as I used the wrong past tense term for a word. She thought it was funny, my only answer was "I am allowed to make mistakes, I am an immigrant" you should have seen her face
and my friend who immigrated from the Netherland 15 years ago just asked her "how is your German or Dutch?" The girl only said "ok, true point" turned around, was ashamed and dint say anything any more

We are going camping today. Spending one night in a tent. First time for the kids. Let's es how they will like it.
I'm really glad kids don't use such elaborate bags for school here. It's just backpacks, sometimes with wheels. For the little ones the most important thing is the character on the front, for example Elsa and Anna.
The bags are pretty cheap, but on the downside, they don't typically last for more than a year. But then again, kids pretty much expect a new bag every fall. My daughter's backpack is already a little torn. I told her she'll have to keep using it till the end of the school year (about one more month), as I refuse to buy a new one now.

I know what you are talking about, even the more expensive ones from staples didn't last long. Two years ago we got ones from Costco and my daughters is in her second year now and my son didn't destroy his within a year. I call that a win

It seems to me kids in other countries than germany haven't so much weight to carry for school. Am I right or is it a false impression I've got from movies? Especially for the primary school kids are the school bags very heavy here.

At least in Elementary school in USA the kids don't have any books. So it's less weight to carry. Everything depends on how the school is working
01.05.2016 15:35
I would say that depends on which school you go as well in Germany. If i were in 5th class we had lockers for our stuff and only had to take homework-needed books with us home.

My son basically just brings a binder home every day where his agenda is in and stuff to leave at home or notes from the teacher. They don't work with books at home.
My daughter only has to burnt her homework, anything else stays at school, but even her homework stuff can be heavy.

Good morning everybody,
what are you doing today?
My boys will have a "Vorspiel" rehearsal at the music school and this afternoon some friends are coming , we will have a barbecue.
Yesterday we were in town looking for a new backpack for my son because he will go to the high school in September. I think we've found one: a blue bag namend "scatch". Including a gym bag and pencil case we paid 180 €It's almost as expensive as his schoolbag for the first class.
Gym bag is the term we use here. Not sure if sports bag is the term for BE.
Thanks for your correction.
The next to last (is it correct for "vorletzte"?) sentence meant, that if we would buy the schoolbag, we had to pay 180 €
We didn't buy it yet. - Dieses Thema wurde 37 mal gemerkt
