Good Morning everybody!

It is nice to see how many people have joined this group.

It would be very nice, if the native speakers could correct the grammar mistakes of the others. (learning by doing)

So today we have a big event. An Indonesia Delegation is visiting our University and i have the wonderful job/task to entertain the guests with Coffee and Cookies and now i must go to prepare the discussionroom with Hand-outs and Mediatechnique and i hope everything goes well.

I wish you (all) a good day

I'd like to join as well. I have to speak english almost every day for business reasons. Now I'll start to be on a "Beschäftigungsverbot"... a term for which I needed the help of my native speakers in the team. They told me the best way to translate it would probably be "limited activity based on doctor’s orders". Because of that "order" I fear that I'll loose alot of my english during my absence (the same happend last time - I'm pregnant with my second baby).
My english isn't that good as I'm more the type of girl which liked math or physics at school, but my last boyfriend (the one before my husband) is american. So I spend some years on the barracks and learned that americans understand me no matter if everything is correct. I was happy at the beginning that I couldn't fight with my boyfriend, but this lasted just a short time . Anyway, this is a way back in time.
Today I don't really think about the english when I speak, but it is difficult to write (as I have the time to think about it).

Further things I'm not sure about(!):
- Indonesia Delegation --> indonesian delegation
- University --> university
- Coffee and Cookies --> coffee and cookies
- Hand-outs and Mediatechnique --> hand-outs and mediatechnique (not sure if this term is correct at all)

As said: I'm not to good with all the rules, it is just a feeling. All the terms are no names.

Zitat von Tanzbär:

Hello,
I would love to join this group I'm 28 years old and I'm living in Bavaria with my three wonderful children (8,4 and 1 years old) and my husband.

At the moment we are trying to emigrate to China, so this thread is a good occasion to improve my english as in everyday life I never have a reason to speak / write in english.

Also z.B. "Ich muss etwas vorbereiten" heißt dann "I have to prepare".

Falls mich meine Erinnerung trügt, bitte unbedingt berichtigen!

That's (roughly) correct. "Must" is not "müssen", but "sollen"!

And "You must not do this" doesn't mean "Du musst das nicht tun", but "Du darfst das nicht tun". "Du musst das nicht tun" is "You don't have to do this".

Another common mistake is to use german syntax on english sentences, e.g. "I go now shopping" or "I have it downloaded" instead of "I'm going to shop now" (formal) / "I'm going shopping now" (informal) and "I downloaded [it]"

Ok, thanks

I knew, that the must-have to-thing was quite complicated

Oh, my English are very very bad.

Hallo ihr Lieben,
ich würde sehr gerne mitlernen und mitschreiben. Aber außer einzelne Vokabeln kann ich leider gar nichts mehr.

Yes, but all countries are written with capital letters at the beginning. Therefore it's ''Indonesian''

And I is also written as a capital letter. So it's ''and I must go''

Nevertheless shelyras statement is correct. It is still Delegation Indonesia versus Indonesian delegation...
